The Ipswich Adventist Gospel Choir (IAGC), are members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Rope Walk. The origins of the choir goes back some 25 years.
Stephen Markham was the first to organise members of the Church into a choir. They sang for church worship services and community events. In later years Dorothy Saunders was choir mistress until health problems prevented her from continuing, during this time the choir became known as The Advent Singers.
For the last two years the choir has been led by Tricia Evelyn assisted by Nicky Saunders. Both Tricia and Nicky are talented young people who have a great love of music and are able to engender a lot of love and commitment in the group as they develop musical expertise.
The present choir consists of people from many different parts of the world and over the years they have supported the local community by singing in an annual concert for Support Team for Ethnic Elderly Development Scheme (STEEDS); the Mayor of Ipswich’s Annual Celebration of Community; in an Ipswich shopping centre at Christmas; at ‘Sue Ryder’ homes, and even on a boat at Woodbridge to raise money for charity.
Over the last two years they have organised very successful Gospel Concerts in Ipswich which have raised money for the Carribean hurricane and also for the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
